The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) requests approval to renew Organic Survey information collection for a period of three years. During this approval, NASS would conduct organic production surveys under cooperative agreements with USDA Risk Management Agency (RMA), when funded, and carried a voluntary reporting statement. Previous approvals contained Organic Production Surveys conducted as a follow-on to the Census of Agriculture, having a mandatory reporting requirement as authorized under Title 7 Sec. 2204(g) Public Law 105-113. The follow-on to the 2022 Census of Agriculture is scheduled for 2025 enumerated in early 2026 and will be included in the next renewal.

The mandatory survey IC was removed for this renewal as the next mandatory survey is scheduled for early 2026. The burden from the mandatory survey was moved to the voluntary survey for this renewal. Previously, the voluntary surveys had only the quality control forms. This resulted in a reduction of burden hours. There is an increase in the number of responses due to the additional mailings that are planned to obtain response without an enumerator.
