The National Park Service (NPS) has
used the Visitor Survey Card (VSC), a short customer satisfaction
card, to conduct surveys at approximately 330 National Park System
units annually since 1998. The purpose of the VSC is to measure
visitors' opinions about park facilities, services, and
recreational opportunities in each park unit and Systemwide. This
effort is required by the Government Performance and Results Act of
1993 (GPRA) and other NPS and Department of the Interior (DOI)
strategic planning efforts. The results are used to measure
performance related to the NPS GPRA goals (IIa1 and IIb1), NPS and
DOI performance measures regarding recreation services, and by park
managers to improve the services they provide to visitors, while
better protecting park resources.
