The Bureau of Reclamation was directed by Congress to collect statistically valid and up-to-date high-quality field performance data on pipeline reliability for water pipelines of different material and vintage. To do this, Reclamation has hired a contractor to develop an easily accessible database of pipe material performance capable of efficiently storing the data collected during this and future projects; supporting future studies and analyses of the performance of water infrastructure system pipe materials. It is anticipated that this research will provide a set of data and evaluation report of that data that water utilities and Federal facilities will be able to use to determine failure rates of their buried pipeline infrastructure. The following are practical benefits to water utilities and Federal facilities: 1. Buried pipeline performance data for each major pipe material used by water utilities and Federal facilities sortable by material type, size, and age at a minimum. 2. A detailed process for determining the state of buried water pipeline infrastructure in the U.S. including failure rates, root causes of failure, and effectiveness of failure prevention actions (i.e., renewal methods and corrosion protection) sortable for each pipe material.
The latest form for Collection and Compilation of Water Pipeline Field Performance Data expires 2020-10-31 and can be found here.
