Who can participate in the survey?
Not everyone will be able to participate in the NLSY27
Survey.
Following a scientific process, we have randomly
sampled households from across the U.S. and invited
them to answer some questions about their household.
These answers are used to find out if someone in the
household is eligible for the survey. If your household

What is the National Longitudinal Survey
of Youth 2027 (NLSY27)?
The NLSY27, sponsored by the U.S. Department of
Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, is a survey that
will collect information over time about how young
people’s experiences at home, school, and work shape
their lives. For many decades, the National Longitudinal
Surveys of Youth have served as a leading research
platform for understanding the experiences of youth as
they move from school to work and into adulthood.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics will recruit a new,
nationally representative group of youth to take part in
the NLSY starting in 2027. Youth who participate in the
NLSY27 will represent today’s youth and help us better
prepare for the future.

agrees to participate, their parent or caregiver
may also be eligible to participate in a survey. The
parent or caregiver will also need to review survey

¿Qué tipo de preguntas se harán?

podrá decidir si desea participar en las encuestas de
seguimiento de la NLSY27 que ofrecemos en los próximos
años.

¿Quién puede participar en la encuesta?
No todos(as) podrán participar en la encuesta NLSY27.
Siguiendo un proceso científico, hicimos un muestreo
aleatorio de hogares de todo los Estados Unidos y los(as)
invitamos a responder algunas preguntas sobre su hogar.
Estas respuestas se usan para averiguar si alguien en el
hogar cumple los requisitos para la encuesta. Si su hogar
no fue seleccionado, no podrá participar en la encuesta.

¿Cómo puedo verificar que la NLSY27 es una

¿Qué es la Encuesta Nacional Longitudinal
de Jóvenes de 2027 (NLSY27)?
La NLSY27, patrocinada por la Oficina de Estadísticas
Laborales del Departamento de Trabajo de los Estados
Unidos, es una encuesta que recopilará información
a lo largo del tiempo sobre cómo las experiencias
de los(as) jóvenes en el hogar, la escuela y el trabajo
dan forma a sus vidas. Durante muchas décadas, las
Encuestas Nacionales Longitudinales de Jóvenes han
servido como una plataforma líder de investigación

jóvenes a medida que pasan de la escuela al trabajo y a
la edad adulta.

¿Qué es una encuesta longitudinal?
Una encuesta longitudinal recopila información del
mismo grupo de personas en diferentes momentos.
Es una buena manera de ver cómo cambian las
experiencias de vida con el tiempo.

¿Cómo podemos participar en la encuesta?
Para participar en la encuesta, siga estos pasos:
1. Averigüe qué persona de su hogar cumple los
requisitos para participar.
Primero, solo un(a) adulto(a) del hogar responderá algunas
preguntas para que sepamos quién vive en su hogar y sus
edades. Podremos decirle de inmediato si alguien en su
hogar cumple los requisitos. Recibirá $5 dólares por su
tiempo, incluso si nadie en su hogar cumple los requisitos.
Si un(a) joven en su hogar cumple los requisitos, un padre/
madre o cuidador(a) confirmará la información del hogar y
recibirá $5 dólares adicionales.
En general, responder estas preguntas debería llevar entre
10 y 20 minutos.

2. Dar permiso o consentimiento.
Encuesta para jóvenes. Los(as) jóvenes que cumplan los
requisitos deberán revisar los detalles sobre la NLSY27
y aceptar participar. Los(as) jóvenes que cumplan los
requisitos y que tengan menos de 18 años (19 en el caso
de los residentes de Alabama y Nebraska) necesitarán que
su(s) padre(s)/madre(s) u otro(a) tutor(a) legal les dé(en)
permiso para participar.
Encuesta para padres/madres/cuidadores(as). Si un(a)
joven que cumple los requisitos acepta participar, su
padre/madre o cuidador(a) también podría cumplir los
requisitos para participar en una encuesta. Su padre/madre
o cuidador(a) también deberá revisar los detalles de la
encuesta y aceptar participar.

Averiguar si usted y su(s) hijo(a)(s) cumplen los
requisitos le llevará entre 10 y 20 minutos. Hacer la

3. Completar la encuesta.
Encuesta para jóvenes. Para algunas partes
de la encuesta, un(a) entrevistador(a) leerá las
preguntas de la encuesta a los(as) jóvenes e
ingresará sus respuestas en una tableta. Para
otras partes de la encuesta, los(as) jóvenes
usarán auriculares para escuchar las preguntas
leídas por la computadora e ingresar las
respuestas por su cuenta. El(La) entrevistador(a)
le pedirá a uno(a) de los padres/madres o
cuidadores(as) que permanezca en el hogar
mientras el(la) joven completa la entrevista.
Encuesta para padres/madres/cuidadores(as).
Si un padre/madre o cuidador(a) cumple los
requisitos, el(la) entrevistador(a) le proporcionará
una computadora portátil para completar la
encuesta por su cuenta.
Cada encuesta durará aproximadamente una
hora a una hora y media.

4. Recibir $50 dólares.
