Pre-Meeting Survey

Introduction

You have registered for one of FHWA’s virtual peer exchange meetings on the topic of pavement resilience. To help us understand your background and interests, and to better plan and organize the meetings, we have prepared a short series of questions on resilience that we would like you to answer by September xx. The survey should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

For consistency in completing the survey, the following definition of resilience is provided (in accordance with FHWA Order 5520, Transportation System Preparedness and Resilience to Climate Change and Extreme Weather Events, 15 December 2014):

Resilience or resiliency is the ability to anticipate, prepare for, and adapt to changing conditions and withstand, respond to, and recover rapidly from disruptions.

Scope definition. Define how each asset is threatened, identify key climate parameters that may cause damage.
Assess vulnerability. Determine which assets are exposed to damage, how that asset would respond and its impact to the network.
Analyze Risk Assess cost of potential threats to assets (quantitative or qualitative) using vulnerability assessment results.
Consider alternatives. Investigate adaptation solutions, see what others have done.
Prioritize and plan. Evaluate feasibility of solutions, program adaptation solutions for implementation.
Take action. Implement the adaptation and monitor for resilience improvement.
