SEVIS is used by institutions and
sponsors to provide notifications, reports, updates and data
required by regulations on the institutions and program, as well as
on student and exchange visitors. Additionally, DHS and DOS will
use SEVIS to adjudicate benefits and services, track student and
exchange visitor data, and to monitor institution and program
sponsor compliance with current regulations. Collection of the F/M
non-immigrant city of birth is critical for data integrity -
positive record identification. The following fields, already
collected from the F/M non-immigrant, will be interfaced to F/M
non-immigrant dependent records - email address, foreign address,
US physical address, US mailing address, city of birth, country of
citizenship, US phone number.
The data collection has
changed, but not significantly, since the previous supporting
statement. Respondents in SEVIS are the DSOs. The DSOs input data
into SEVIS in order to fulfill two responsibilities: the management
of their school’s F and M nonimmigrant data, and the management of
their school’s SEVP certification. Requirements and processes for
management of this data have not changed. Actual variances in
aggregate costs/burden between this supporting statement and the
preceding one reflect changes in overall student enrollment, the
number of schools having or seeking SEVP certification, the number
of DSOs, and the average DSO salary. Also, school fees related to
SEVP certification and recertification have been added as a
relevant cost. The revision is to add a new data field for city of
birth. This field allows SEVP to distinguish between applicants
with the same name and country of birth. The field is not expected
to increase the burden per response.
