accountability of Government-furnished property provided to
contractors under purchase orders for repair. The property and
receipt records will permit DoD to account for its property and
reduce the risk of misuse or loss of property. Additionally, the
electronic records facilitate an electronic end-to-end process for
management and oversight of Government-furnished property, as is
required by DoD Instruction 4161.02, Accountability and Management
of Government Contract Property.

The increase is the result of
amendments to the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement
(DFARS) to require the use of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR)
clause 52.245-1 in purchase orders for repair or maintenance of
GFP. Use of the FAR clause these purchase orders will ensure
contractor accountability of GFP provided to contractors for repair
under purchase orders.
