The purpose of the study is to gather
information on the major types of cost containment practices used
by the 90 WIC SAs, assess the effectiveness of various practices,
and identify those practices that effectively constrain the cost of
WIC foods with few or no adverse effects on program outcomes. FNS
will use the findings to share with WIC SAs food item cost
containment practices that are effective at reducing WIC food
costs.
The WIC Food Package Costs and
Cost Containment Study is a new study whose purpose is to gather
information on the major types of cost containment practices used
by WIC SAs, assess the effectiveness of various practices, and
identify those practices that effectively constrain the cost of WIC
foods with few or no adverse effects on program outcomes. This is a
new information collection that will add 2,340 burden hours and
16,907 annual responses to OMB's information collection inventory
as a result of program changes.
