Under the Violent Crime and Control Act of 1994, the U.S. Department of Justice COPS Office would require the completion of the Community Policing Self-Assessment Tool from law enforcement agencies in order to improve the practice of community policing throughout the United States.

In order to accurately reflect the number of respondents, we decreased some 3,000 respondents that were originally assigned to take the English version of the CP-SAT short form, and transferred them to the Spanish version of the CP-SAT short form. Therefore, the overall number of respondents has not changed for the entire collection.
