Dear LAST NAME,
On behalf of the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) and the U.S. Census Bureau, we would like to thank you for your participation in the 2011 Annual Parole Survey. Your participation is important to ensure that the data collected are complete and accurate.
These data have been collected annually since 1980 and the detailed data gathered in this survey are not available from any other single source. The data are used to provide counts of the parole population both nationwide and within each jurisdiction; measure change in the parole population annually; track the number of parolees entering and exiting supervision each year; assess trends in the parole population over time; profile the characteristics of parolees; and measure outcomes of parolees. Without your assistance, this collection would not be a success each year.
We also want to provide you with some information about the status of BJS’ 2011 collections on community corrections; the Annual Parole Survey and the Annual Probation Survey. These surveys were fielded in December 2011, and to date, ____% of parole agencies and ___% of probation agencies have responded. For the most recent probation and parole data available, see Probation and Parole in the United States, 2010 on the BJS website at http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/xxxx.
We look forward to working with you in the future. If you have any questions or comments about either of these collections or the BJS annual report, please contact me,
at Tom.bonczar@usdoj.gov or (202) 616-3615.
Sincerely,
Tom Bonczar William Sabol, Ph.D.
