As mandated by the Occupational Safety
and Health Act of 1970 and the Federal Mine Safety and health Act
of 1977, NIOSH responds to requests from employers, employees, and
others to evaluate potential occupational health hazards in
workplaces. Approximately 200 short-term field investigations are
performed each year to help employers and employees identify and
eliminate occupational health hazards. Employees are informally
interviewed or asked to complete questionnaires during some on-site
evaluations. Following the completion of a health hazard
evaluation, followback questionnaires are administered....
