Approval is
provided for one year, through June of 1990. In the interim, the
Department is asked to actively pursue public comment on the data
item descriptions (DIDS) that it uses to collect data from
contractors. The Department, through a notice published in the
Federal Register, should notify the public of its plans and
timetable for comment concerning related, understandable groups of
DIDS in the items upon request and a reasonable opportunity to
comment, analyze all comments received, and make changes to or
eliminate DIDS as appropriate, based upon comments received. The
first of such public reviews should be announced in the Federal
Register prior by September 1, 1989. Additionally, DOD should
provide a detailed breakdown of the current paperwork burden
associated with AMSDL, included projected decreases and/or
increases, and the causes for such changes. This analysis should be
provided to OMB for consideration during the ICB review in August
l989.
