FRA regulations in 49 CFR part 207 require railroads to notify states of all designated police officers who perform duties outside of their respective jurisdictions. This is necessary to verify proper police authority. The information collected under the current rule is used by the States and collected as needed. There is a requirement for reporting and recordkeeping. FRA does not make use of the information because the information is not required to be provided or intended to be provided to the agency. Rather, the information is provided to state authorities as a method of implementing the Crime Control Act of 1990.
The latest form for Railroad Police Officers expires 2023-05-31 and can be found here.
