The Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, as amended (34 U.S.C. 10132), authorizes BJS to compile data on the operation of correctional facilities at the state and federal levels. This is the 2019 Census of State and Federal Adult Correctional Facilities (CCF) data collection, fielded every 5-7 years, and will be the ninth in a series. The CCF provides information about the characteristics of individual state- and federal-level correctional facilities.
