Materials produced for the NHTS will be available in both English and Spanish languages. Spanish translations will be developed using industry standards and will apply reverse-translation protocols. The survey materials and systems will offer the following accommodations for Spanish-speaking participants:
Invitation materials that incorporate a footnote in Spanish to provide participation instructions and the dedicated hotline number,
A Spanish version of the public website that provides the full English content translated into Spanish, and
All online instruments and the smartphone app are designed to natively support system language settings for both English and Spanish.
To further accommodate household members who cannot respond or are not comfortable responding in English or online, we will offer professional bilingual phone support in all communications about the survey, including printed and digital media.
