This report is the only source of
current, consistent demographic information (age, race/ethnic, sex,
occupation, industry) on the Unemployment Insurance (UI) claimant
population. These characteristics identify important claimant
cohorts for legislative, economic and social planning purposes, and
evaluation of the UI program on the Federal and State
levels.
The Department seeks these
updates to reporting instructions to maintain consistency across
Federal Government Agencies (e.g., Office of Management and Budget,
Department of State and U.S. Census Bureau). Existing reporting
instructions and revised definitions/instructions are included as
Attachment A and the reasoning and justification for the changes to
the reporting instructions to follow the latest OMB guidance are
included as Attachment B. An updated report cell map for edit
checks and IT programming purposes is included as Attachment
C.
