As part of our Census of Agriculture program, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) and the Economic Research Service (ERS) are conducting the Tenure, Ownership, and Transition of Agricultural Land (TOTAL) survey and we need your input. Enclosed is your U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Tenure, Ownership, and Transition of Agricultural Land (TOTAL) Survey. Please complete it at your earliest convenience. Your participation helps to ensure that the agriculture industry decisions affecting you, your family, business, and community are based on facts.

You may receive an email reminder to complete your questionnaire. If you do not respond by January xx, 2025, a USDA representative may contact you to arrange an interview.

Participation in all Census of Agriculture surveys is both required by law and protected by law (Title 7, U.S. Code). NASS safeguards the privacy of all respondents, ensuring that no individual respondent or operation can be identified. Be assured that your responses will be kept completely confidential, as required by federal law.

Why is your response important?

Your response will help your state Department of Agriculture, local banks, and input suppliers with decisions that affect you and other farmers and ranchers nationwide.

We will publish the data in the annual Farm Production Expenditures report on July xx, 2025, at nass.usda.gov/Publications as well as in other reports at ers.usda.gov/arms.
