Note: Sub-questions will be asked/prompted as needed based on initial response. If questions are provided to interviewees in advance, we will provide high level questions only.


Getting to Know You -

  1. Please give us a brief intro to your role and your health center, including patient demographics, payor mix, services offered, and if you have an on-site pharmacy.


Awareness and Utilization of Clinical Guidelines -

  1. How do you determine which adults should be tested and, if appropriate, vaccinated for Hepatitis B?  

    1. Are you aware of the 2023 CDC recommendations for Hep B testing and vaccination?

    2. If yes, what if any changes have you made in your clinical operations to support implementation of these recommendations? 

    3. Follow up if response does not provide this level of detail: 

      1. Do your clinical guidelines (if any) include any recommendations regarding Hep B testing and/or vaccination? 

      2. Do you currently routinely test all (not risk based) adults for Hep B?

      3. Do you test pregnant patients? 

  1. If you identify a new case of Hepatitis B, do you have one or more accessible resources for assessment and, if appropriate, treatment of a Hep B patient?

    1. Is this resource internal or external? 

  1. Are you aware of any external barriers that would interfere with access to testing, vaccination, and/or treatment of Hep B?

  • What is your scheduled sequence for Hep B screening for pregnant women? 

  • How many total deliveries did you have? 

    • How many positive untreated Hep B women delivered?  

  • How many were treated in hospital prior to birth? 

  • What is follow up for infants born to Hep B positive mothers? 


Training and Technical Assistance -


  1. Have you participated in past training and technical assistance offered by HRSA on this or other topics?

  2. How would you rate this support?

    1. Is it the right length, not enough, too much, too long?

    2. What formats work best for you to receive training/support?

  3. Would you consider/recommend any of your health center’s HBV work as a best practice for HRSA to share?

  4. Based on the barriers you may have mentioned during this conversation, what topics would you most like to see as the focus of training and technical assistance?

  5. Does training/technical assistance need to offer CEUs for you to be interested in it?

  6. Would you and/or your providers be interested in educational training regarding testing, vaccination, and/or treatment of Hep B?
