PAPERWORK REDUCTION ACT AND PRIVACY ACT NOTICE:
A Federal agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond to, nor shall a
person be subject to a penalty for failure to comply with an information collection subject to the
requirements of the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 unless the information collection has a currently
valid OMB Control Number. The approved OMB Control Number for this information collection is
0648-0380. Without this approval, we could not conduct this survey. Public reporting for this
information collection is estimated to be approximately 5 minutes per response for a dockside
interview and 1 minute for a biological sampling of catch, including the time for reviewing instructions,
searching existing data sources, gathering and maintaining the data needed, and completing and
reviewing the information collection. All responses to this information collection are mandatory. Send
comments regarding this burden estimate or any other aspect of this information collection, including
suggestions for reducing this burden to the NOAA/NMFS, Fisheries Statistics Division (F/ST1), 1315
East-West Highway, Room 12359, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
Collection of information through the Large Pelagics Fishing Survey provides essential information for
the conservation and management of Atlantic highly migratory species. Information on fish distribution
and catch rates will be used for stock assessment and in developing management programs to
enhance fishing opportunities. Reporting of fishing effort and catch of highly migratory species is
required under the authority of the Atlantic Tunas Convention Act. Consistent with the Privacy Act, it is
NOAA policy to preserve the confidentiality of information submitted under this reporting requirement,
except that NMFS may release such information in aggregate or summary form, such that individual
identifiers are not disclosed (NOAA 216-100).
