Sample Administrator Interview Protocol
Note: Prior to the interview, this protocol will be tailored for the project or the comparison site and completed as much as possible from existing documents.
Introduction
Thank you for taking the time to talk with us today. We are researchers from [Westat, an independent research firm located in Rockville, MD / the Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect, Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine University of Colorado]. We have been contracted by the Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation (OPRE) within the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) to conduct an evaluation of John H. Chafee programs serving youth in or transitioning out of foster care (called the Chafee Strengthening Outcomes for Transition to Adulthood [Chafee SOTA] Evaluation).
A Federal agency may not conduct or sponsor, and no individual or entity is required to respond to, nor shall an individual or entity be subject to a penalty for failure to comply with a collection of information subject to the requirements of the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, unless that collection of information displays a currently valid OMB Control Number. The OMB number for this collection is 0970-0XXX and the expiration date is XX/XX/XXXX.
[Program sites] As you know, [PROGRAM] is one of the programs involved in this evaluation. For each program, we are interviewing several people to learn more about the program’s efforts to serve youth who are transitioning out of foster care. In the interview today, I am especially interested in learning about your program’s goals, development, resources, participants, and plans for sustainability. In preparation for this interview, we have reviewed information about your program and would like to build on that knowledge to learn more about your services for youth transitioning out of foster care.

In the interview today, I am especially interested in learning about how your program contributes to [PROGRAM]’s goals, development, resources, and sustainability.
