Title 46 CFR is available at—https://www.eCFR.gov, select TITLE 46 – SHIPPING, and follow to Parts 31 & 32. Sections 31.10-21a and 32.59-1 describe the standards for plating thickness and periodic gauging. |
When must information be submitted to the Coast Guard? |
Upon the tank vessel reaching 30 years of age, and every 5 years thereafter. |
How is the information submitted? |
In writing or electronically via e-mail. Information is submitted to the CG Officer in Charge, Marine Inspection (OCMI) at the local Sector Office, or the CG Marine Safety Center (MSC). What happens after providing all required documentation/ information? |
The gauging report is utilized by the CG to verify the structural integrity of an older tank vessel before reissuing its Certificate of Inspection. |
