18 U.S.C. Section 1001 makes it a crime for any person knowingly and willfully to make to any department or agency of the United State any false, fictitious, or fraudulent statements or representations as to any matter within its jurisdiction.




According to the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995, an agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond, to a collection of information unless it displays a valid OMB control number.  The valid OMB control number for this information collection is 0596-0082.  Response to this collection of information is mandatory. The authority to collect the information is the Organic Administration Act, 16 U.S.C. 551.  The time required to complete this information collection is estimated to average 2.5 hours per response, including the time for reviewing instructions, searching existing data sources, gathering and maintaining the data needed, and completing and reviewing the collection of information.
