ASSIGNMENT MESSAGE:
David… delete these comments (in red) , and save to your computer as your “master file” that you can use for the template for all
your 2020 NFIRS. Reminder you do not need to add doc number, incident date, or CATID when you fill out the e-assigns. Also
reminder to not use word “accidental;” instead state “unintentional.” Don’t say: Is the fire cause now known? Was it accidental?
Instead, say “Is the fire cause now known? Was it unintentional?”
Below is the NFIRS ID information for the fire:
State
FDID
Incident Date
Incident Number
Exposure Number
A full write-up is not required for this IDI. You need to include: the 182, list of exhibits, contact
page (Ex. 1), and fire report if available, along with anything else you may have collected during
the investigation.
Complete the IDI even if it turns out to be arson – this is an exception to the usual rule to screen
out arson cases.
If NO consumer product is found, use product code 1866; however, if ANY consumer product is
found (even if not cause of fire), then use that product code.
Note: Please let the fire department know that we are doing this only in the interest of getting the
most accurate estimates that we can. We are not evaluating their coding or checking up on them.
They may be sensitive to this.
