Department of Energy (DOE) is requesting an extension of information collection to determine whether applicants meet the requirements to use LEU from the American Assured Fuel Supply (AAFS) reserve. DOE created the American Assured Fuel Supply (AAFS), a reserve of low-enriched uranium (LEU), to serve as a backup supply of LEU available to foreign end-users to be supplied through U.S. persons, or to domestic recipients, in the event of a supply disruption in the nuclear fuel market. This reserve of LEU as a backup supply supports DOE’s nuclear nonproliferation and civil nuclear energy objectives.
