Under Title 28, United States Code
(U.S.C.), Section (§) 534, Acquisition, Preservation, and Exchange
of Identification Records and Information; Appointment of Officials
and the Uniform Federal Crime Reporting Act of 1988, 34 U.S.C. §
41303, this collection requests homicide data from federal, state,
local, and tribal law enforcement agencies in order for the FBI UCR
Program to serve as the national clearinghouse for collection and
dissemination of homicide data.

For this extension, the
respondents’ annual burden was calculated using the actual number
of months (1-12) for which the respondents submitted data. The
annual burden hours show an increase over those presented in the
previous extension based on the calculation procedure. However,
since the information on the SHR form is included in NIBRS, the
burden hours are expected to decrease over this three-year
extension as agencies currently reporting under SRS transition to
NIBRS.
