INSTRUCTIONS
The Intermodal Container Targeted Inspection Report provides documented notice of the intent to inspect identified intermodal
container(s) to all involved parties. Identifying intermodal containers on this list requires U.S. Coast Guard Container Inspectors
to schedule an International Safe Container Act safety examination, an International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code
compliance verification examination, or U.S. Federal Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Transportation Law compliance
examinations. The Intermodal Container Inspection List may be used to assist in intermodal container targeting efforts.
Guidance for completing the CG-5577B Form:
1. Specific block guidance:
Block 1:

Enter date Inspection List is given to the appropriate involved party. Date should be in DDMMMYYYY
format (e.g., 14MAR2014).

Block 2:

Enter date Container Inspections are scheduled. Date should be in DDMMMYYYY format (e.g.,
14MAR2014).

Block 3:

Enter the Captain of the Port (COTP) Zone where Container Inspections are being conducted.

Block 4:

Enter facility/company where container(s) are to be located for inspection.

Block 5:

Container(s) Identified for Inspection Information:
No. - Add successive numeric designator for each container inspected (e.g., 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.)
Container Identification - Enter container/tank identification, which includes owner code: three
letters; equipment category identifier: one letter; serial number: six numerals; and check digit: one
numeral (e.g., USAU6543217).
Hazard Class - Enter the primary and subsidiary hazard class(es) of the listed container(s).
Location - Enter the location where listed container(s) are located at the time of targeting. (e.g.,
location within facility, vessel name, etc.).

Block 6:

Enter any additional information (e.g., container staging requirements, shipping paper request in
accordance with 49 CFR 172.602(c)(2), etc.).

2. Attain the appropriate involved party's (e.g., facility representative, owner, shipper, agent, custodian, etc.) signature,
acknowledging receipt of the form and the information contained.
3. Enter the qualified USCG Container Inspector's printed name, rate/rank, and signature.
4. Original CG-5577B shall be given to the involved party and the colored copy retained for USCG records.
Privacy Act Statement
Authority: 46 U.S.C. § 70011; 46 U.S.C. § 80503; 49 U.S.C. § 5101-5128; 33 CFR § 160; 49 CFR § 171-177; and 49 CFR § 453
Purpose: To document and notify all involved parties of intent to inspect identified intermodal container(s). Identified intermodal containers on this list will be
subject to International Safe Container Act safety examinations, International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code compliance verification examinations, and/or U.
S. Federal Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Transportation Law compliance examinations by U. S. Coast Guard Container Inspectors.
Routine Uses: This information will be used to assist the Department of Homeland Security in responding to incidents that may occur as a result of hazardous
material transportation operations, and may be disclosed externally as a “routine use” pursuant to DHS/USCG-013, Marine Information for Safety and Law
Enforcement (MISLE), 74 Federal Register 30305 (June 25, 2009).
Disclosure: Furnishing this information is voluntary. However, failure to provide this information may result in the delay of transportation authorization or other
enforcement actions.
An agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond to a collection of information unless it displays a valid OMB number.
The Coast Guard estimates that the average burden for this report is 3 minutes. You may submit any comments concerning the accuracy of this burden

All container(s) identified on this form are hereby selected to be inspected by the U.S. Coast Guard at the location identified in Block 4 of this form.
Upon conclusion of Container Inspection activities on the scheduled date in Block 2, a Form CG-5577 Intermodal Container Inspection Report or
CG-5577A Intermodal Container Non-Deficiency Inspection Report will be issued, conveying further U.S. Coast Guard guidance. At the conclusion
of U.S. Coast Guard Container inspection activities, any container(s) identified on this form that do not receive a disposition in an associated
CG-5577 or CG-5577A form, are hereby released and can reenter the transportation stream. In no circumstances will any container, identified on this
form, be held for inspection beyond the date indicated in Block 2, without additional U.S. Coast Guard documentation.

PENALTIES FOR VIOLATING THIS DETENTION ORDER
Civil or criminal penalties for violation of this Detention Order may be issued in
