Community Harvest Assessments for
Alaskan National Parks, Preserves, and Monuments
Initial Contact and
Initial Contact
“Hello, I am here (calling) today because we are conducting a comprehensive harvest survey to document all parts of the subsistence economy in this community. The survey is sponsored by the National Park Service, and the information will be used to update their resource harvest and use records of residents in this community.
Would you be willing to schedule a time to conduct a face-to-face interview that will take about one-hour to complete. During the interview we will ask questions about your harvesting practices and preferences. The information will be used to estimate wild food harvests and to describe effects on the economies in rural communities.
Would you be willing to participate in the survey?
→If YES –or would you prefer to schedule another day and time?
→If YES – Is this a good time to schedule another day and time for the interview?
→If YES – Ask to schedule the time for the interview
→If NO – Ask for a better time to contact them to schedule the interview
→If NO (but interested in more information)- It is important to learn from as as many people as possible because it will help us to update our harvest records. The information you provide will not be connected back to you or your household. Your responses will be completely anonymous and will only be used in a report that will summarize all of the responses we receive.
→If NO – and not at all interested, interviewer will say, I understand.would you be willing to answer four short questions before I leave (or hang up the telephone)
