Proposed text for Distribution E-mail:

Dear Survey Recipient;

Attached to this e-mail is a survey from the Radiation Physics Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The Radiation Physics Division is responsible for maintaining standardization of radioactivity (Bequerel – Bq) and dose equivalent (Sievert – Sv) for the United States and for performing research on the metrology of radioactivity and radioactive materials. The goal of the attached survey is to identify and prioritize needs for reference material, nuclear data, calibration services, and performance testing for “nuclear and radiological security.” These needs can include measurements of radiation, radioactive nuclides, or radioactive materials associated with consequence management, food safety, and environment monitoring, border protection, nuclear forensics, and nuclear safeguards and non-proliferation.

You have been identified as having responsibilities within the area of “nuclear and radiological security.” Our hope is that by providing the information requested in the survey instrument, you can help the NIST Radiation Physics Division set priorities for future activities and for the distribution of resources.

We encourage you to contact staff and colleagues within your organization to contribute to the survey. At your earliest convenience, please return the completed survey to me at Richard.essex@nist.gov. If you are not the appropriate contact for this information, please let us know. Also, if you know of a more appropriate individual for this survey within your organization and could provide their contact information, this would be very helpful. Please feel free to write me or call at 301-975-5541, if you have any question about this survey or need additional information.

Sincerely,
