The estimated average number of annual respondents is 563 (88 project PIs/co-PIs and 475 LSAMP institution personnel), with an estimated annual response burden of 12,949 hours. The Web-based collection is an annual activity of the LSAMP program. There are approximately 44 LSAMP alliances with 2 or more co-PIs and project personnel at alliance institutions. New alliances (and institutions within currently funded alliances) will be added to the program over the next three years. The new institutions enter at approximately the same rate that alliances or institutions leave the program or project as their funding expires.
The annualized burden was calculated by taking the average number of respondents from the previous collection cycles and estimating their response burden, based on a question in the Web-based data collection system asking how long it takes respondents to complete the instrument. The burden estimates for each type of respondent are outlined below:

The overall annualized cost to the respondents is estimated to be $358,133. The estimated hourly rate for PIs, who are generally university professors, is based on a report from the American Association of University Professors, “Annual Report on the Economic Status of the Profession, 2014-15,” Academe, March–April 2015, Survey Report Table 4. According to this report, the average salary across all academic ranks and across all types of doctoral-granting institutions (public, private-independent, religiously affiliated) was $87,838. The rate for institution personnel was established by using the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ May 2015 National Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates, which estimates the mean annual wage for those in Education, Training, and Library Occupations to be $52,210. Both of these figures was then divided by the number of standard annual work hours (2,080) to determine an average hourly rate for each respondent type. Those rates and the corresponding total annual costs are indicated in the table below:

Computing the annualized cost to NSF for the LSAMP data collection was done by taking the budget for most recent year and calculating the costs for each of the following operational activities involved in producing, maintaining, and conducting the LSAMP data collection:
