AUTHORITIES: The authority to collect information in this petition is set forth in the Immigration and Nationality Act, 8 U.S.C. sections 1103, 1184, 1255, and in the implementing regulations found in 8 CFR.
PURPOSE: The primary purpose for providing the requested information on this petition is to determine if you have established eligibility for the immigration benefit for which you are filing. DHS will use the information you provide to grant or deny the benefit sought. The information collected with the Form I-929 is used to assist the DHS in enforcing the immigration laws of the United States by providing timely and accurate information about persons who are subject to those laws. With the passage of the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act (including the Battered Immigrant Women’s Protection Act) in October 2000, Congress created U nonimmigrant status and provided for the adjustment of status of U nonimmigrants, as well the adjustment of status or issuance of an immigrant visa to certain family members of U nonimmigrants. The legislation was intended to strengthen the ability of law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute cases of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking and other crimes while, at the same time, offer protection to victims of such crimes. The legislation also helps law enforcement agencies to better serve victims of crimes.
DISCLOSURE: The information you provide is voluntary. However, failure to provide the requested information, and any requested evidence, may delay a final decision or result in denial of your petition.
ROUTINE USES: DHS may share the information you provide on this form with other government agencies. DHS follows approved routine uses described in the associated published Federal Register notices [DHS/USCIS/ICE/CBP-001 Alien File, Index and National File Tracking System of Records, November 21, 2013, 78 FR 69864, DHS/USCIS-007 Benefits Information System, September 29, 2008, 73 FR 56596]. DHS may also share the information, as appropriate, for law enforcement purposes or in the interest of national security. |
