Trawl Logbook

TRAWL LOGBOOK INSTRUCTIONS
This coastwide trawl logbook was developed by the Pacific Fishery Management Council, the
states of Washington, Oregon and California, and the National Marine Fisheries Service. It
provides a standard format for recording trawl data.

Place the back cover (flyleaf) under the yellow copy. Carbon paper is not required. Use a
pencil or ballpoint pen (press firmly). Send the Vessel Description page with the first trip
page(s) and again if any of the vessel data changes. Keep the white copies for your records.
Please submit as follows to the state where the landings are made:

This is a state logbook program and duplicate pages are included for collection and processing
by the states. Submission of this information is required under California, Oregon and
Washington state laws.
California: By the 10th of each month, send the yellow copies
of each trip for the preceding month in the stamped, preaddressed envelopes provided by CDFW. [DFG 176 (11/09)].
VESSEL DESCRIPTION INSTRUCTIONS
Complete and send TRAWL VESSEL DESCRIPTION page
with first submission of log data and again if vessel data
changes.
Vessel Name: Registered name of vessel
Radio Call Sign: Full radio call sign of vessel
Home Port: Documented home port or port where vessel is
docked during off season
Year Built: Calendar year construction completed or as
recorded in document papers
Length: Registered length overall
Net Tonnage: Recorded net tonnage
Engine Type: Specify if diesel or any other type
Horsepower: Rated horsepower of engine(s)
Electronics: List of electronic equipment
Refrigeration: Type of refrigeration system, if any, such as
circulating seawater
Processing Capability: Method of on-board processing, if any
Date of Report: Date vessel description report filled out

Oregon: If logbook pages are not collected by ODFW
personnel by the 10th of each month; send yellow copies of
each trip sheet for the preceding month to ODFW.

Washington: If WDFW personnel fail to collect information
from you; by the 10th of each month, send yellow copies of each
trip sheet for the preceding month to WDFW.
