Usable Cryptography Interviews
Participant Recruitment Emails
Recruitment Email for Prior Survey Respondents
Dear <name>,
This past summer, you completed a “Use of Cryptography” survey conducted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Visualization and Usability Group. Thank you again for your response! At that time, you expressed your willingness to take part in a more in-depth, follow-up interview to further flesh out some of the interesting findings of the survey.
We are now ready to proceed with the interviews, and we are asking if you are still interested in participating in this second phase of our study. As you may recall, our study aims to explore challenges and usability issues encountered by organizations that design, implement, and test products that use cryptography. In the second phase we will be focusing on testing processes in the interview. We hope to use the results of these interviews to better inform cryptography education and improve the usability of standards and testing guidance to make navigation through cryptography resources and cryptography implementation easier for developers.
The interview will last no more than an hour and will include questions about your organization’s cryptography testing challenges and how (or if) you use cryptography standards. The interview can be conducted at a location convenient to you if you are in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. area, or via video teleconference or phone if you are not.
Your interview responses will be confidential, and participation is voluntary. If you do not want to answer a specific question, you can skip it and go on to the next.
Please let me know if you can participate in this phase of our study or if you have any questions. You may contact me at julie.haney@nist.gov or 301-975-4972 or Mary Theofanos at mary.theofanos@nist.gov or 301-975-5889.
We appreciate your consideration and hope that you can participate in our study!
