As a part of the NIOSH Pittsburgh Mining Research Division project Optimal Design of Proximity Systems for Underground Mobile Equipment, researchers are looking to assess the current state of these systems being used by industry. Researchers are looking to answer the following questions (1) in which situations do proximity detection systems on mobile haulage hinder normal operations? and (2) in which situations do proximity detection systems on mobile haulage endanger miners?
