• Participation ensures that state recognized tribes in your state will gain valuable
information that will aid in making decisions about education, health services, and
housing.

SDTSAs, and CDPs for your state prior to the 2020 Census.

[Invitation Letter to OTSA]
<>
FROM THE DIRECTOR
U.S. CENSUS BUREAU

Dear (Tribal Chair):
The U.S. Census Bureau (Census Bureau) invites your tribal government to participate in the
2020 Census Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP). All federally recognized tribes that
currently have an Oklahoma Tribal Statistical Area (OTSA) are eligible to review their OTSA
and to delineate OTSA tribal subdivisions, and/or census designated places (CDPs) representing
unincorporated communities within OTSAs, as part of the PSAP.
We strongly encourage your participation in the 2020 Census PSAP for the following reasons:
• The federal government allocates over $675 billion in federal funds annually for
infrastructure, programs, and services based on Census Bureau data.
• Participation ensures that your tribe will gain valuable information that will aid in making
decisions about education, health services, and housing.
• The 2020 Census PSAP is your only opportunity to review and update OTSAs, tribal
subdivisions, and CDPs prior to the 2020 Census.
Action Steps:
1. Review the enclosed 2020 Census Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP)
Information Guide to answer questions about PSAP and help your government prepare
for participation.
2. Sign-up for the 2020 Census PSAP by filling out the enclosed Tribal Contact Update
Form and Tribal Product Preference Form. Please return the completed forms in the
enclosed postage-paid envelope or scan and e-mail the forms to geo.psap@census.gov,
within two weeks of receipt.
You can find statistical data for your tribal area in the Census Bureau’s My Tribal Area
application at https://www.census.gov/tribal/. The Census Bureau published the proposed
delineation criteria for these statistical areas in the Federal Register Notice
.
