I have reviewed the materials submitted for the following: CHILD NUTRITION SAE, Project
Number 6479. Pursuant to 45 CFR pt. 46, the IRB reviews all studies involving research on
human subjects. This research is funded by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.
Westat will conduct the following activities:
 Examine historical patterns of SAE allocation, reallocation, and recoveries, State SAE
spending patterns, and factors affecting State use of SAE allocations.
 Identify best practices that help States use funds more effectively, and develop and
evaluate budget-neutral alternatives to the current formula.
Per 45 CFR 46 102 (f) and based on the information provided, this project does not include
human subjects and is therefore exempt from further IRB review.
If activities change, please contact the IRB Office to ensure that the status is accurately reflected
in our records. You are only required to submit the study for a continuing review before
November 1, 2017 if activities change for this project. In the interim, you are responsible for
notifying the IRB office as soon as possible if there are any injuries to the subjects, problems with
the study, or changes to the study design that relate to human subjects.
