It's vital that all youth--including marginalized youth--get age-appropriate information about sexually transmitted diseases, and that we monitor the success of these preventions efforts to improve them.

inept, and lying continuallyt with research andpropaganda. this is the fat cat bureaucratic swamp

- the cdc. i see no reason for them to incur into schools. the schools have health teachers. tyhay is

enouigh. we dont need more. and all of this money glommbed for the few in this category is also

insulting and gouging. its time to shut down this taking by the fat cay inept bureaucracy which

Within today's society, many youth fail to properly educate themselves on sexually transmitted diseases. It seems as if it's out of sight, out of mind. Many of them fail to educate themselves about STDs and HIV prevention until they transmit one. Because teens are more at risk for getting some STDs, it's important to learn what preventive measures can be taken to protect them. I believe implementing school-centered HIV/STD prevention efforts will not only educate today's youth, but also aid in preventing teen pregnancy. For me, while attending an all-girl catholic school, sexual abstinence was shoved down our throats. Avoid sex until marriage, and you won't get pregnant. That was the picture that was painted, so for many of us if we were to have sex our major concern was not getting pregnant. Contracting STDs/HIV wasn't discussed because I believe by them discussing STDs and HIV prevention meant that it was a possibility we were having sex before marriage, which is taught to be a moral sin. Gary Gates of UCLA's Williams Institute theorized that there are approximately 9 million members of the LGBT community in America today. Reports suggest that 4.5% of them are in high school and another 4.5% in questioning. As stated in the background description of document #2017-07482, "HIV infections remain high among young men who have sex with men". Through proposed projects such as the one in question, there can only be good to come from this. Like prayer in school, sex education is a very controversial topic amongst many. The Supreme Court has long held that parents have a fundamental right to control the upbringing of their children. This right, often referred to as the Meyer-Pierce right, is rooted in the substantive due process protections afforded by the Fourteenth Amendment. That is why I agree with the proposed project having parental consent forms provided to all parents with an opportunity to opt their children out of the study. All avenues have been covered and the ultimate goal still remains, establishing HIV/STD prevention efforts.

Thanks,

I can only try to understand your frustration, but if CDC does not initiate this proposed project in the school for OUR children, who will? School surveying not only allows you to plan and evaluate programs but also create a positive public image. For example, following a tragic school shooting in Jonesboro, Arkansas, using data from their student surveys, they proved that Jonesboro students were less likely than other U.S. students to carry guns to school, threaten other students, and be hurt at school. I truly do not believe the CDC is in the business of taking taxpayers money for personal gain. From their clever tobacco commercials that always have me glued to the TV set, to the case studies on rabies and extensive research on vaccines, they are here for the betterment of the American people. Ultimately, the goals of this propose project is to utilize student data to better assist in efforts that can prevent life altering diseases.

I'm all in CDC, make us proud!
