The information is used to determine
the continued eligibility of a Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP), Reserve
Component Survivor Benefit Plan (RCSBP) and/or Retired Serviceman's
Family Protection Plan (RSFPP) child annuitant once the child has
reached age 18 and must attend school full-time to continue
receiving the annuity. The Survivor Benefit Division of the Defense
Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) uses the information to
release funds.
This is a reinstatement with
change to an expired collection. The approximate time for filling
out the form and obtaining all the documentation increased from 12
minutes to 1 hour. During the previous approval, we did not
consider the time needed to obtain school official authorization,
time to gather documentation, or the travel time required by the
respondent.
