Section 1833(i) of the Social Security
Act authorizes, but does not require, the establishment of a
quality reporting program for ambulatory surgical centers. For CY
2017 and subsequent calendar years, it is proposed that ambulatory
surgical centers will be required to collect and submit eleven
quality measures to CMS. Measures are added to the Ambulatory
Surgical Center Quality Reporting (ASCQR) Program in order to
measure meaningful outcomes for the most important areas of service
furnished by ASCs. This information is publicly reported and can be
used for informed decision-making and quality improvement in the
ASC setting.
ASCs are already submitting 11
of the 18 measures to CMS, and five of the proposed new measures
(ASC-15a – ASC-15e) are calculated using data collected and
submitted in the OAS CAHPS Survey.
