Authority for the operation of the MobileUsabilityLab (MULab) test and the collection of
information is provided under 13 U.S.C., Chapter 5, 6, 8(b), 131, 141, 161, 182, and 193.
The purpose for collecting this information is to conduct usability experiments on the
user interface of mobile questionnaires and of data dissemination apps to assess the effect
of user interface design on the quality of data, including Personally Identifiable
Information (PII) entered by the respondent in responding to a survey. Personal
information that may be collected includes name, e-mail address, telephone number,
gender, race, occupation, and education, etc.
Disclosure of the information provided to us is permitted under the Privacy Act of 1974
(5 U.S.C. § 552a) and may be shared with other Census Bureau staff for the work-related
purposes identified in this statement and in the following Systems of Record Notices
(SORNs): Census-3, Demographic Survey Collection (Census Bureau Sampling Frame);
Census-4, Economic Survey Collection; Census-5, Decennial Census Program, and;
Census-7, Demographic Survey Collection (non-Census Bureau Sampling Frame).
Furnishing this information is voluntary. Failure to do so may affect the Census Bureau’s
ability to collect accurate information for future surveys or censuses.
