NSF sponsors the Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED), the nation’s primary source of
information on the educational history, demographic characteristics, and postgraduation plans of
doctorate recipients. NORC is assisting NSF in exploring the possibility of adding a Graduate
School Experiences (GSE) section to the SED. A GSE module would cover topics such as
campus climate, professional development experiences, and overall satisfaction with the graduate
program.
I would like to invite you to participate in [an online focus group/a one-on-one interview] to
explore issues related to the addition of a GSE section to the SED. As the [title/position at

group will be conducted via GoToMeeting and will last approximately one hour. You will need
