OVERVIEW
WELCOME
Good [morning/afternoon/evening]. I am and I am a researcher from
the USDA Forest Service, and this is [OBSERVER’s NAME]. We are interested in learning more
about the greenspace around your property and in your community. Are you available to
answer some questions?
AGENDA
During this interview, we will be going through a survey and you will answer for the property
you own at [SPECIFIC ADDRESS].
There are no wrong answers.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
I would like to say thank you for participating in this interview. We really appreciate you taking
time out of your schedule to talk with us today.
DISCLOSURES
I also wanted to let you know that we will be using a digital device to record your answers to
today’s interview. These recordings are strictly for research purposes, they will not go beyond
the research team. Individual statements will never be attributed to specific individuals, but we
may say that landowners in [state] said x.
GUIDELINES
To help facilitate interview, here are a few guidelines:
I will read each question and all of its answer choices aloud.

You will consider the answer choices and choose the answer or answers that best reflect
your attitudes or behaviors about your property.
Talk in a loud, clear voice
Remember, there are no wrong answers, we want your opinion
The rest of the interview time is allotted to going over the survey and recording landowner’s answers.
These interviews will be based off of a subset of the Urban Survey. Interviews will not go beyond the
allotted time. See NWOS Urban Form XIII.
