Food irradiation is subject to the
premarket approval provisions of the Federal Food, Drug, and
Cosmetic Act. Regulations providing for uses of irradiation in the
production, processing, and handling of food are found in part 179
(21 CFR part 179). This collection supports agency regulations that
ensure the safe use food irradiation. Respondents to the collection
are businesses engaged in the irradiation of food.
Increase in burden results from
increased number of respondents. This is explained more fully in
the agency's supporting statement at Q.15.
