OMB Control No. 0648-0342
Expiration Date:
 5/31/2018

The Hazard Simplification team would like to collect public comments via a voluntary survey on various hazard messaging prototypes. The focus will be to present a winter weather “prototype episode” that will depict ideas for larger scale changes to the current Watch, Warning and Advisory (WWA) system.  These ideas for change, as collected at the 2015 Haz Simp Workshop, include examples of how we could use different language in our headlines as possible replacements to the WWA terms.  Ideas for integrating color into NWS hazard messages were also collected.

The prototype episode will feature a realistic winter event that users will be able to review from start to finish as the weather evolved.  Users will be randomly assigned one of three prototypes or the current WWA messaging system. Next, users will be provided with the opportunity to complete a survey.  The survey will gauge reaction to the prototypes in terms of message formatting, as well as how expected timing, confidence and impact are expressed.

Public reporting burden for this collection of information is estimated to average 15 minutes per response, including the time for reviewing instructions, searching existing data sources, gathering and maintaining the data needed, and completing and reviewing the collection of information. Send comments regarding this burden estimate or any other suggestions for reducing this burden to: HazSimp@noaa.gov

Notwithstanding any other provisions of the law, no person is required to respond to, nor shall any person be subjected to a penalty for failure to comply with, a collection of information subject to the requirements of the Paperwork Reduction Act, unless that collection of information displays a currently valid OMB Control Number
