The Policy and Program Studies Service
(PPSS), within the U.S. Department of Education's Office of
Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development, contracted with the
American Institutes for Research to conduct five case studies on
sustaining the positive effects of preschool. The case studies will
provide detailed descriptions of five programs that help
disadvantaged students in K–3 build on the positive effects of
preschool or lead to positive cognitive, social-emotional, and
academic outcomes by using policies, programs, and practices
related to two key topic areas: (1) preschool and K–3 alignment and
(2) differentiated instruction. On-site case studies will include
interviews with district officials, principals, Kindergarten
teachers, preschool teachers, program funders, and program
evaluators.
