5. Purpose of the overall communication effort into which this health message(s) will fit:
(Please provide 2-3 sentences below.)
DHAP routinely produces communications for partners, stakeholders, and at-risk populations. We
currently do not have a system in place for routinely conducting message testing with the intended
recipients of our messages. The purpose of this project is to test select core messages that could then be
integrated into fact sheets, Dear Colleague letters, information on our web sites, or for use in campaigns or
interventions.
6. Category of time sensitivity: (Please check one below)
Health emergency:
Time-limited audience access:
Press coverage correction:
Time-limited congressional/administrative mandate:
Trend Tracking
Ineffective existing materials due to historical event/social trends:
7. Describe nature of time sensitivity: (Please provide 2-3 sentences below.)
The HIV prevention landscape is changing and current messaging and materials are outdated. Messages
communicating about new prevention strategies and guidelines need to be tested before wide
dissemination. Testing ensures that messages are clearly understood, culturally competent, relevant and
acceptable to target audiences, and provide information that is helpful and actionable. Message testing can
also ensure that messages are non-stigmatizing, and do not produce other unintended consequences.
