Abstract: To ensure that shipyard personnel do not enter confined spaces that contain oxygen deficient, toxic or flammable atmospheres, qualified (competent) personnel must test such spaces. Information provides individuals deemed qualified by the employer to conduct such tests, plus results and instructions.

Short Statement: OSHA is requesting an adjustment increase of 26,220 burden hours (from 312,764 to 338,984 burden hours). The adjustment increase results from including additional industries covered by the Standard, an increase in the number of establishments and, a determination that not all affected industries would conduct 10 visual examinations/protocols every calendar day. There was a three hour decrease, resulting from a determination that information collected by the Agency during the inspection is not subject to PRA under 5 CFR 1320.4 (a)(2).
