pdfEmail to Chief Officer announcing Survey and to designate Key Holder
Dear Chief Officer:
IMLS is pleased to announce that the Fiscal Year (FY) 2012 State Library Administrative Agencies (SLAA)
data collection will open in January 2013! We anticipate that the survey data will be released in Summer
2013, and statistical reports summarizing the results within one month of the data release.
What’s New?
Starting with FY2012, the SLAA survey will be collected every other year. Other than a minor name
change (formerly StLA), the survey has changed very little from FY2010. Please see the FY2010 StLA
Survey Questionnaire and Instructions on the IMLS web site for your reference and to help you begin
gathering the data that will be collected in January.
Meet our new contractor: the American Institutes for Research
We are pleased to announce that the American Institutes for Research (AIR) will be working with us on
the FY2012 SLAA collection. AIR is one of the largest social science research organizations in the world
and has been conducting social and behavioral research since 1946. AIR has a long history of designing
and supporting federal statistical surveys, particularly for the U.S. Department of Education, and
members of their SLAA team worked on the SLAA collection when it was overseen by the National
Center for Education Statistics. The AIR SLAA team is currently designing the data collection web-tool
and implementing processes to collect and release the FY2012 SLAA data in a timely manner.
What’s Next?
Later this year, you will receive emails from AIR providing additional information about the data
collection. Please add SLAA@air.org to your email “whitelist” or “safe-senders” list so that you do not
miss any important information about the SLAA survey.
Each SLAA should designate a contact person (keyholder) for the FY2012 survey. Please reply to this
email (Kim Miller, kmiller@imls.gov) by COB December 5, 2012 with that person’s current contact
information, including email, phone, and fax.
Please let us know if you have questions about the survey or about the information that we will be
collecting from you. Watch for additional information about the FY2012 SLAA data collection.
We look forward to working with you!
Sincerely,
Carlos Manjarrez
Director, Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation
