The Social Security Administration
(SSA) uses the information we collect on this electronic request
for Social Security records to respond to the public's request for
information under the rights provided by the Freedom of Information
Act (FOIA), and to track those requests by amount received, type of
request, fees charged and responses sent within the required 20
days. Respondents are members of the public including individuals,
institutions or agencies requesting information/documents under the
Freedom of Information Act.
US Code:

USC 552(a)(3) Name of Law: Government Organization and
Employees
Based on actual data reported
on SSA's annual report, we have reduced the estimate to 2,500
respondents to reflect a more realistic figure, and adjusted the
public reporting burden accordingly. We have also adjusted the
burden per response time from 3 minutes to 7 minutes. SSA data
indicate 7 minutes more accurately reflects respondent per response
completion times.
