The electronic Logging Device is a computer that, at will,
can have data reproduced, changed and deleted by
anyone in a position to do so. Manipulation is therefore
always present and uncontrolled even with the best policy
directives of a Company whether it being a large fleet or 1
independent truck.
The old saying of - Where there is a will, there is a way,
holds true regardless of the current system of paper logs or
the proposed system of electronic logging. It is a reality in
the industry that can not be corrected by an electronic
device.
There are many other alternatives to reducing violations
and promoting Safety (if that is what we are TRULY after)
that have been proposed by organizations such as OOIDA
(Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association).
Lets spend our time and money constructively, introducing
legislation that will effect what really causes the very
issues, that the introduction of this proposal is trying to
control with the implementation of the Electronic Logging
Device.
