The submission is for conducting a
general population mail survey of households in Orange County,
California. The survey will collect data on day trips to local
beaches which, when combined with marine debris measurements at
these beaches, will be used in a pilot study designed to assess the
economic benefits of reductions in marine debris to beach visitors.
The pilot study results will be used to develop and refine NOAA's
future research efforts related to the economic impact of marine
debris. The Marine Debris Program requires this information to
adequately address the requirements of the Marine Debris Act that
are related to the economy and tourism.
